Entsteht sie hier wieder die legendäre Achse zumindest im Kunst-Verkaufsbetrieb, die Achse NEW YORK – Köln, wie sie ja der Legende nach schon lange bestand und in der Ausstellung „I love NY“* von 1998 im Museum Ludwig gipfelte. Die Zeiten in den man, interessierte man sich für die Moderne in der Kunst an der Domstadt nicht vorbeikam und man schon global dachte als andere noch nur europäisch. Auf alle Fälle ist das ein sehr interessanter Ansatz den Walter m. Gehlen, einer der Macher da nach Köln geholt hat. Jünger geht es nicht und um Umfeld der art fair mit ihrem Kunst-Eventprogramm sicherlich spannend aufgehoben.
Was ist die DIVA
31 Galerien zeigen die Werke von Künstlern die sich ausschließlich mit Video und digitalen Medien auseinandersetzen. Im Focus der DIVA liegen Künstler die sich am Tellerrand der Videokunst und der digitalen Medien befinden. Digital erstellte Kunstwerke, Filme, Video, Animationen, digitale Fotographie und digitale Performances bilden den Schwerpunkt.
Im März diesen Jahres präsentierte sich die DIVA das erste Mal in diesem Jahr in NEW YORK unter dem neuen Namen. Bereits 2003, hier ist die Parallele zur art fair von Köln, startete man eine Messe die sich mit digitaler Kunst beschäftigte unter dem Namen „Moving images“. Zielgruppe der Messe sind Kunsthändler, Sammler, Museen, Kuratoren und letztendlich Künstler die sich mit Video und NEW MEDIA Kusnt beschäftigen.
Mit den vielen digitalen Neuerungen hat Künstlern, losgelöst von technischen Beschränkungen, völlig neue Dimensionen und Visionenen ermöglicht. „Dynamische Arena“ nennen die Macher der art fair und DIVA das Spielfeld, das Videokameras, Digitalkameras für die Bildermacher mit Hilfe des Computers eröffnen. Man freut sich, sich im Umfeld der etablierten ART Cologne und in Köln einem der wichtigen Kunstmärkte der Welt präsentieren zu können.
Die DIVA kann zu den gleichen Zeiten wie die art.fair besucht werden.

Frère Independent announces DiVA Cologne, the Digital & Video Art Fair. DiVA Cologne will take place in the Left Hall of the art.fair exhibition building, Expo XXI. From Friday, October 28th at 4pm through Tuesday, November 1st at 7pm, 31 galleries from around the world will gather to present exclusive works of art made by artists primarily working with video and digital media. The exhibitor booths have been engineered specifically to host video works. On view will be a number of diverse and innovative works by artists exploring and pushing the limits of video and the digital medium. This includes digitally created artworks, film, video, animation, digital photography, performance and other related media.
The premiere edition of DiVA took place in March of this year in New York, but originally started under the title of „Moving Images“ in 2003 as the first art fair specialized in Digital and Video Art. DiVA is an international destination for collectors, art dealers, museums, curators and artists involved in Video and New Media Art.
DiVA COLOGNE is the first art fair dedicated to video and digital art. Since the invention of photography, nothing has had a greater impact on artistic practice than the emergence of the personal video camera, and later, digital technology. Now, cameras and video cameras, digital or not, with the aid of computers, have become the ultimate tool in creating a dynamic arena for art-making, regardless of the end product.
The use of video and/or computers no longer restricts the artists to their immediate technical parameters. The concentration of serious collectors in Cologne, both contemporary art lovers and/or those who collect as part of family tradition, makes the town one the most important places for video art and new media. Cologne is also seen by many as one of the most promising art markets in the world. As such, it is very easy for the local collectors to welcome video as a serious part of their collections. DiVA Cologne promises to be a valuable addition to the town’s art aura created by the more established ART Cologne.
DiVA Cologne will be open to the general public from Friday, October 28 (vernissage, 20 euros) through Tuesday, November 1st 7pm (admission, 12 euros).
EXPO XXI Cologne is located in center of Cologne. This brand new exhibition hall is easily accessible by subway or by car and provides generous parking facilities.

What is DiVA Fair?
DiVA Fair is the first art fair dedicated to video and digital art.
DiVA Fair seeks to develop a strong global marketplace for the sale and distribution of video and digital art thereby providing professional opportunities and visibility to new media artists comparable to those
of artists working in traditional media.
DiVA Fair first began with the name „Moving Images“ at the Windsor Hotel in New York in November 2003.
DiVA New York premiered in March 2005 at the Embassy Suites Hotel featuring 36 galleries from 5 countries.
Interest within the art world fueled the spread of DiVA Fair to three additional cities in its first year:
• Brussels, 15 April 2005
• Paris, 6 – 9 October 2005 in cooperation with the art fair FIAC
• Cologne, 28 October – 1 November 2005 with art.fair
• At DiVA Cologne, 31 international galleries will present works by up to three artists, each in a net 800 square meter exhibition space specially designed for the display of video and digital art.
• DiVA Cologne is dedicated to the distinguished Korean-born American video artist Nam June Paik whose work will be presented at the fair.
• Galleries are invited to apply by the DiVA Fair Curator, Elga Wimmer, who works in cooperation with the Board of Advisors to identify, select, and invite the most challenging video and new media artists from around the world.
